EWING, NJ – Beginning Monday, October 2, pedestrians and bicyclists may encounter brief stoppages along the portion of the Delaware & Raritan Canal towpath that passes through the construction zone on the New Jersey side of the Scudder Falls (I-95) Bridge, the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission announced today.

Periodic stoppages of towpath users are needed to ensure public safety during the execution of various construction activities related to the Scudder Falls Bridge Replacement Project.

The stoppages are to be implemented on as-needed basis by flaggers posted along the towpath to shield the public from potentially hazardous construction activities, such overhead crane movements, nearby excavation activities, or other heavy equipment operations.

The safety contingency is expected to be limited to weekday daytime work hours for approximately the next two months.  Project-related work is not currently taking place close to the canal towpath on evenings and weekends.
