LOWER MAKEFIELD, PA – Bucks County commuters are urged to plan for severe traffic congestion and travel delays on I-295 eastbound approaching the Scudder Falls Bridge on the mornings of Thursday, June 3; Friday, June 4; and Saturday, June 5 – weather permitting.

New Jersey-bound travel at the bridge is scheduled to have a single travel lane those three mornings.  The travel restriction will allow for concrete truck deliveries and concrete pouring onto the deck of the Scudder Falls Bridge’s second (downstream) span, which is now nearing completion at the Delaware River.

Two-mile-long backups with corresponding travel delays of up to an hour are possible on I-295 eastbound approaching the bridge from Bucks County, PA. during peak commuting periods — 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. – on any of the three days.

Due to these possible conditions, the Commission is warning Bucks County motorists headed to New Jersey employment centers or the Trenton-Mercer Airport to plan ahead and consider earlier departures, allowing more time to reach their destinations, working from home, postponing travel or using an alternate route like the Trenton-Morrisville (Route 1) Toll Bridge.

Concrete deck pours at the new bridge span are expected to continue through June.  The pours are weather sensitive and must be conducted in a designed sequence determined by corresponding steel structural supports.  Pours will take place during overnight hours and continue into the morning peak commuting periods, with is 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the bridge.

Looking ahead, the next series of concrete pours and corresponding single-lane travel restrictions is currently scheduled to occur June 8-11.

Note:  All of the aforementioned scheduled travel restrictions are subject to change due to weather, emergency, traffic, and equipment/materials mobilization considerations.  Motorists are urged to allow extra time to reach their destinations, reduce speeds and exercise caution when travelling through project work areas.
