EWING, NJ – The Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission today announced a postponement of the scheduled opening date for the first roundabout at the I-295/Route 29 interchange on the New Jersey side of the Scudder Falls Bridge.

The roundabout – a circular intersection in which motorists travel counterclockwise around a raised center island – had been expected to become fully operational Monday morning, Oct. 22.

However, a series of staged construction activities at the busy highway interchange will not be completed in time to allow for the roundabout’s implementation as originally planned.

A new start date for the roundabout’s full opening has yet to be determined.

Corresponding transitioning work scheduled to take place during overnight hours this weekend – Oct. 19-21 – also has been cancelled and will be rescheduled for a later date.

The new roundabout, which opened partially to limited traffic in August, is one of two such traffic-facilities that will be integrated into a redesigned/reconstructed I-295/Route 29 interchange under the current Scudder Falls Bridge Replacement Project.  Construction on the other roundabout – on the interchange’s upstream side – is expected to begin early next year.
