EWING, NJ – A short section of the Delaware and Raritan Canal towpath on the New Jersey side of the Scudder Falls Bridge will continue to be closed on weekdays until Sept. 28, the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission announced today.
The scheduled daily towpath closures are needed to ensure public safety while construction crews continue stripping overhangs from new elevated ramp structures and install seethrough acrylic noise-abatement walls on one of the elevated structures in the vicinity of the I-295/Route 29 interchange (Exit 76, old Exit 1).
Towpath access will be blocked approximately 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. As currently scheduled, the D&R towpath will continue to be open for public use on weekends.
The aforementioned restrictions and schedule is subject to change.
Pedestrians and bicyclists are urged to exercise caution when traveling along the canal near or through work areas for the duration of the 4-1/2-year-long bridge replacement project.
