Construction activities will continue to take place to along wide swaths of the 4.4-mile-long Scudder Falls Bridge Replacement Project work zone and this will require multiple travel restrictions next week, the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission announced today.

To carry out this work, a series of weekday and weekend off-peak single-lane travel patterns will continue to be implemented along I-295 EB/SB (New Jersey-bound travel) and I-295 NB/WB (Pennsylvania-bound travel).

Also next week, a series of lane closures will be implemented at the I-295/Route 29 interchange (Exit 76, old exit 1) on the New Jersey side of the Scudder Falls Bridge; these will primarily affect Route 29 NB motorists.

The full schedule of project-related travel restrictions for the week of September 23 follows:

New Jersey side

  • I-295 NB/WB (Pennsylvania-bound)/old I-95 SB) approaching the Scudder Falls Bridge – Intermittent single-lane travel patterns 7 p.m. to 2 p.m. (next day) Monday, Sept. 24 through Thursday, Sept. 27; ALSO Friday, Sept. 28, 8 p.m. to 10 a.m. (next day), AND Saturday, Sept. 29, 7 p.m. to 11 a.m. (next day).
  • I-295 EB/SB (New Jersey-bound/old I-95 NB) crossing the Scudder Falls Bridge into New Jersey – Intermittent single-lane travel patterns 10 m. to 4 p.m. (next day) Monday, Sept. 24, through Thursday, Sept. 27; ALSO Friday, Sept. 28 – 6:30 p.m. to 10 a.m. (next day), AND Saturday, Sept. 29, 6:30 p.m. to 11 a.m. (next day).
  • Route 29 NB approaching the I-295 interchange – OVERNIGHT detour beginning at West Upper Ferry Road intersection and continuing via nearby NJ Rte. 175/River Road 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. (next day) Tuesday, Sept. 25 through Thursday, Sept. 27; ALSO Friday, Sept. 28, 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. (next day).   • Route 29 NB on-ramp to I-295 NB/WB and Scudder Falls Bridge (Pennsylvania- bound) – OVERNIGHT closure with posted detour via West Upper Ferry Road and Bear Tavern Road/County Route 579 interchange (exit 75) 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. (next day) Monday, Sept. 24, through Thursday, Sept. 27.   • I-295 EB/SB exit ramp to Route 29 NB and SB after crossing Scudder Falls Bridge into New Jersey – OVERNIGHT closure with posted detour via Bear Tavern Road/County Route 579 interchange (Exit 75) and I-295 NB/WB off ramp to Route 29 NB & SB 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. (next day) Monday, Sept. 24, through Thursday, Sept. 27.   • Route 175/River Road – Intermittent alternating single-lane travel may be implemented approximately 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 24 to Friday, Sept.

Pennsylvania side

  • I-295 EB/WB in the vicinity of the Scudder Falls Bridge – Intermittent single-lane travel patterns possible off-peak overnight hours for construction along I-295 on the New Jersey side of the Scudder Falls Bridge Monday, Sept. 24, through Saturday, Sept. 29.
  • Taylorsville Road north of I-295 and Interchange ramps – Intermittent single-lane patterns with possible flagger-controlled travel 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 24, to Friday, Sept.
  • Taylorsville Road south of I-295 – Intermittent single-lane patterns with possible flagger-controlled travel 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday, Sept. 24, to Friday, Sept.
  • Woodside Road (west of Taylorsville Road to around Clearview Drive) – Right or left lane closures with passage maintained in each direction and/or flagging-controlled travel 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 24, to Friday, Sept.
  • River Road/Route 32 – Intermittent alternating single-lane travel with traffic controlled by flaggers 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Sept. 247, to Friday, Sept.

Weekends: Expect overnight single-lane patterns to be in effect along both directions of I- 295 on the Pennsylvania side of the Scudder Falls Bridge during Friday/Saturday overnight hours and Saturday/Sunday mornings for the weekends of Sept. 22-23 and 29-30 (specific potential time periods under New Jersey side above).

Canal Towpaths: The Delaware & Raritan (D&R) Canal towpath on the NJ side of the Scudder Falls Bridge will continue to be closed to ensure public safety during construction activities in the vicinity of the canal approximately 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays Monday, Sept. 24 to Friday, Sept. 28.

The aforementioned scheduled travel restrictions are subject to change due to weather, emergency, traffic, and equipment/materials mobilization considerations. Motorists are urged to allow extra time to reach their destinations, and to reduce speeds and exercise caution when travelling through project work areas.
