LOWER MAKEFIELD, PA – The first of two winter-holiday lane-closure moratoriums for the Scudder Falls Bridge Replacement Project is scheduled to go into effect 6 a.m. Friday, Dec. 21, and continue until noon Wednesday, Dec. 26, the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission announced today.

Only limited lane closures are expected to be implemented between Christmas and New Year’s Day, occurring only between noon Wednesday, Dec. 26, and 6 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28.

The full schedule of project-related travel restrictions for the week of Dec. 23 is as follows:

New Jersey side

  • I-295 NB/WB (old I-95 SB) approaching the Scudder Falls Bridge Pennsylvania-bound – Intermittent single-lane travel patterns noon Wednesday, Dec. 26, to 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27; and 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, to 6 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28
  • I-295 EB/SB (old I-95 NB) crossing the Scudder Falls Bridge into New Jersey – Intermittent single-lane travel patterns noon to 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. (next day) Wednesday, Dec. 26; and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. (next day) Thursday, Dec. 27.
  • Route 175/River Road – Intermittent alternating single-lane travel may be implemented approximately noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26, and approximately 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27.

Pennsylvania side

  • I-295 EB & WB in the vicinity of the Scudder Falls Bridge – Intermittent off-peak single-lane ravel patterns possible for construction along I-295 on the NJ side of the Scudder Falls Bridge noon Wednesday, Dec. 26, to 6 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28.
  • Taylorsville Road north of I-295 Intermittent single-lane patterns with possible flagger-controlled travel noon to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27.
  • Taylorsville Road south of I-295 – Intermittent single-lane patterns with possible flagger-controlled travel noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26; and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27.
  • Woodside Road – Right or left lane closures with passage maintained in each direction and/or flagging-controlled travel noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26 and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27.
  • PA Route 32/River Road –Intermittent stoppages and alternating traffic controlled by flaggers noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26, and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27.

Weekends: Christmas weekend – Project-related lane closures to be suspended 6 a.m. Friday, Dec. 21, to noon Wednesday, Dec. 26.  New Year’s Day weekend — Project-related lane closures to be suspended 6 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28, to noon Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2019.

Canal Towpaths:  The canal towpaths on the New Jersey and Pennsylvania sides of the Scudder Falls Bridge are expected to remain open through the holiday period.  Towpath closures in the immediate vicinity of I-295 in New Jersey and Pennsylvania are expected to resume January 2.

The aforementioned scheduled travel restrictions are subject to change due to weather, emergency, traffic, and equipment/materials mobilization considerations.  Motorists are urged to allow extra time to reach their destinations, and to reduce speeds and exercise caution when travelling through project work areas.
