To ensure public safety amidst expanded work activities, public access may be restricted periodically to the canal towpaths that pass through the Scudder Falls Bridge Replacement Project construction zone this spring.

  • NEW JERSEY — Intermittent closures of the Delaware & Raritan Canal towpath in New Jersey are possible on weekdays through (updated) MAY.  Short-duration weekend closures also might be necessary if bad weather delays construction activities.  Any suspension of towpath access on the New Jersey is attributable to overhead construction of a new approach bridge across Routes 175 and 29 NB and the canal.  When completed, the new approach bridge will feed traffic to and from the Scudder Falls Toll Bridge’s upstream span.
  • PENNSYLVANIA — Weekday intermittent closures of the Delaware Canal towpath in Pennsylvania are possible now until the end of June.  Like New Jersey, these closures should be periodic and brief.  The PA towpath, however, is expected to be available for use on all weekends.  When implemented, any towpath closures will allow for overhead construction activities on a new approach bridge that will carry I-295 traffic to and from the new Scudder Falls Toll Bridge’s upstream span.
